GETTING TO BERE ISLAND

Bere Island on the Beara Peninsula in West Cork is situated 75 miles west of Cork City.  It is about a 2 hour drive from Cork City as outlined below.

AIR:  The nearest airport to Bere Island is Cork Airport.

SEA:  The nearest ferry port is Ringaskiddy Ferry Port with weekly ferries to and from Roscoff in France.  Most of the car ferries from Britain arrive in Rosslare Ferry Port and Dublin Ferry Port.

 

 

DRIVING INSTRUCTIONS FROM CORK CITY TO BERE ISLAND:

  • Take the N22 westward, following ‘Killarney’ signposting.
  • 8 miles (13 km) after the end of the dual carriageway follow the left hand signpost for Bantry and Castletownbere (R585).
  • After 1 mile reach the village of Crookstown where you take a left turn (signpost for Bantry).
  • After 12.5 miles (20 km), take a right turn following the signpost to Glengarriff.
  • In Glengarriff take a left turn for Castletownbere (R572).
  • Murphy’s Ferry leaves The Pontoon, which is 18 miles from Glengarriff on left.
  • Bere Island Ferries is in Castletownbere on the left at the entrance to the town.
